  • Roberta Lister Jones Aug. 23rd Our family tradition is a reunion every five years in the town of Pelly, Saskatchewan were several Lister family members homesteaded at the beginning of the 20th century. There are still Lister families relatives living in the area, although they are not all Lister'snow, of course. This years' reunuion was held in conjunction with Pelly's centennial. We Lister's came from sea to sea to join in the celebrations. We entered a 'float' in the parade which was decorated with a banner 'Lister from Sea to Sea' as we have relatives there from Newfoundland to Britisih Columbia and in between representing Lister's. We all carried flags of our birth place and where we live now. There were flags from Nfld., Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. We all wore Lime Green T-shirts with LISTER on the back and a Tiger Lily ,Saskatchwan's flower on the front. A family dinner was held for about 70 or so Lister's many new from last reunion by birth or marriage. It was a reunion to remember for years to come as it was special in so many ways especially the centennial celebrations.
  • Gord Romanick Aug. 18th Every year our family hosts a corn/chilli roast. All our neighbours, family and friends arrive with potluck dishes, kids and adults swim, and the music video's on the big screen start at dusk. All in all we have a great time with special people. And thats our summer tradition
  • Patricia Slaven Aug. 16th Every summer we spend a day at Port Stanley with the whole family. We try to make sure there are great waves to enjoy and when we've had enough we head on over to Mackies to enjoy their fries with special sauce and orangeaid. This year we had extended family from Great Britain to enjoy our summer tradition. They loved it! Summer doesn't really begin until we've enjoyed ourselves at Port Stanley
  • Ken Maynard Aug. 15th This summer will be the 20th anniverary of the Maynard family picnic which we hold every year at Mill Brook picnic site in Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland, right on Bonne Bay.We have quite a large family, 17 aunts and uncles,51 first cousins.Lats year was our biggest year with 58 family attending and was a special year because we haven't had any new babies for some time and last year there was 3 and we are all about the babies, as we always say that children are really the only true joy in the world. I think they got tired of being passed around from one to the other, fighting over who got to hold them next, lol.At the picnic we have the tradition "Newfie" meal, tradition music. We are a family that embraces the new members, new inlaws and of course we had to "screech them in" in our own special Newfoundland way.At the picnic we always give thanks to our grandparents which have been long deceased and say a prayer for the ones that were taken from us in tragic accidents at young ages.Family photos of course. One uncle that attended last year who has been back to NL 2 or 3 times in 28 years was standing back taking it all in and I could see that he was starting to choked up, so walked to him , he looked up and said" this is what it's all about isn't it Ken " With my family the is no shaking of hands it's all about the hugging and kissing, some would almost squat the life out of you.The best family a person could ask for and we are so blessed to have a family that cares so much about each other in the good times and the bad.Love them all
  • Sonia Tomyn Aug. 15th Our Summer tradition is every year in August my family goes to the Hamburg fair. We eat the fair food, spin the news wheels for charity, play bingo by throwing balls, and look for bargains in their buildings. We prefer this fair because it still has a small town feel to it and is very family oriented. Each year adds its own unique memories.
  • Dave Mudryk Aug. 5th Our summer family tradition centers around the agricultural fair held in our town. It is one of the largest old time fairs in Alberta, and every year our family looks forward to attending. There is a bench show, horse show, tractor pull, rides and so much more! When our chlidren were younger they would enter their horses in the horse show and compete in the riding events. When the horse show was over each evening we would sit around a camp fire with their friends sharing food and laughter. Roast a wiener, sip a pop and have the best times of our lives. It was and continues to be a great family tradition.

  • Melanie Laframboise Jul. 31st My summer has always been memorable. Every year, My Grandmothers family all get together in Gananoque,ON for a family reunion. For a whole week, we camp at "The pinecrest Resort" and in total, my family rents about out 13 cottages! We have many different activities during the week. We have Halloween in july ( all the kids dress up & of course go cottage to cottage for candy, peanuts or whatever is lying around ), Christmas july ( even Santa comes ! ), Talent night, fishing derby and much more! The view is also incredible! we're right in the middle of the well known " 1000 islands" and its just beautiful to see all the nice little islands that surround us. I love this time of year. It's the only time when i get to see all my relatives. I get to see cousins from Brazil, Vancouver, Germany, PEI, Ottawa... I think every family should have the chance to have reunions, and I know im soo lucky to be able to experience it EVERY single year. :)
